Community Seed Bank
Community Seed Bank
Giving Seeds Back to Farmers
"A farmer who owns seeds owns their future."
The Community Seed Bank is our step towards building a self-reliant farming ecosystem, where seeds are preserved, shared, and protected — by farmers, for farmers.
About
What is a Community Seed Bank?
A Community Seed Bank is a local, farmer-driven system built on the principles of collective ownership and agricultural sovereignty.
- 🌾 Native seeds are collected and preserved in their pure form
- 🤝 Farmers can access seeds for each cultivation season
- 🔁 Seeds are returned and multiplied after every harvest
- 📚 Knowledge is shared freely within the farming community
It is not just storage.
It is security, independence, and continuity.
The Problem
Why It Matters Today
Today, many farmers face:
Depend on external seed companies every season, with no control over pricing or availability
Lose access to traditional, climate-resilient crops that sustained generations
Face rising input costs and seasonal uncertainty with no safety net
We Are Here to Break That Cycle.
The Community Seed Bank restores the power of seeds back to the farmer — where it has always belonged. By preserving native varieties and creating a sharing ecosystem, we eliminate dependency at its root.
Our Method
Our Approach
Seed Collection & Preservation
We identify and collect native, traditional seeds from trusted farmers and regions across Tamil Nadu, ensuring they are preserved in their pure, unaltered form.
Farmer Participation
Farmers are not customers — they are partners. They borrow seeds, cultivate them using natural methods, and return seeds after harvest, continually strengthening the system.
Village-Level Seed Banks
Our goal is clear — one Community Seed Bank in every village. This ensures that farmers never have to depend on outside sources for their most fundamental need.
Knowledge Sharing
We support farmers with traditional farming practices, seed saving techniques, and sustainable agriculture methods — passing down wisdom that has been refined over centuries.
The Cycle
How It Works
Seeds Distributed
Farmers receive native seeds from the seed bank to begin cultivation
Natural Cultivation
Crops are grown using chemical-free, traditional farming methods
Seeds Returned
After every harvest, seeds are returned back to the community seed bank
Redistribution
Seeds are redistributed to more farmers, growing the ecosystem further
